del Soul's Mission is to help at-risk youth become active citizens.
Teaching and Practicing Values
Ventana del Soul fosters Community by using the 40
Developmental Assets (Assets) as the foundation for all of the cultural
center's programs.
Studies have found the Assets to be catalysts of positive change in Individuals,
Organizations and Communities. The Assets help to empower individuals to create
a sense of centeredness, purpose and focus - nurturing the qualities that guide
positive life choices. (see The

Experiencing and learning are the root of all Assets and at the heart of Ventana
del Soul.
Ventana del Soul - Programs that Reach Youth:
Educating through Experience-based Learning
- Community Service Learning Program - Reduce
delinquency by mentoring and job coaching youth who are at-risk of
falling further into the justice system; Provide safe, positive and
constructive after-school opportunities for youth to
fulfill court ordered community service (ages 10 - 18)
- Mentor / Job Coach Training Program - Provide meaningful, mentoring opportunities
for college students and the community; Train mentors how to bond with at-risk
youth; Encourage volunteerism and community involvement; Provide opportunities
for interns and students to become life-long mentors while gaining experience
and making a positive contribution to their community
- Community & Cultural Arts Program - Support non profit and community-based
organizations by providing meeting space for board meetings, training
and fundraising; Provide space for cultural arts exhibits and
performances; Attract the perfect role models of active citizenry for
our at-risk youth population; Offer a positive place to gather and opportunities to participate
- Back to Work Program - Help disenfranchised adults find jobs through mentoring
and job coaching; other opportunities include AA, Food Safety Management Certification,
and ESL classes
- Sustainability Program - Create a national model for sustainable
cultural centers that foster community through education and experience
based learning; Provide management training opportunities for students
who are interested in creating sustainable cultural centers
