Our Charitable Mission
Ventana del Soul is a 501c3 charitable organization whose mission is to provide
job skills and vocational training in food service to people who are at risk
of falling further into the justice system.
Ventana del Soul provides a safe place for youth (ages 10+) to complete
court-ordered community service. Volunteers from area universities job
coach and mentor youth to help them learn how to work in a cafe while
encouraging them to do positive things for themselves, their families
and their community.
Youth receive food handling certification; gain valuable food service experience;
help serve food to members of non-profit and community organizations (great
role-models); learn that volunteering can be a positive learning experience;
and that they can make a difference by contributing to society.
Teaching and Practicing Values
The Search Institute identified 40 Developmental
Assets (Assets) as the building blocks of healthy development that help
young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. Studies have found the
Assets to be catalysts of positive change in Individuals, Organizations and
Communities. The Assets help to empower individuals to create a sense of centeredness,
purpose and focus - nurturing the qualities that guide positive life choices.
